Military dog tags are made from stainless steel and feature a rolled top edge and are now being personalized for parties and special events.

Embossing is the method used to mark these tags which produces characters that are raised from the top surface. Embossing, also referred to as stamping achieves this by using a set of male/female dyes for each character. This is the most limiting of all the marking methods in that only letters, numbers and some special characters can be used. in addition, each line can have a maximum of 15 characters including spaces and up to five lines per tag. With the use of modern equipment text line substitution and consecutive numbering can be achieved resulting in a run of tags each with unique information. Great for names, addresses, phone numbers, serial numbers etc. The clear advantage of embossing is that no other marking method will yield authentic military dog tags. The disadvantages are that only letters, numbers and special characters can be embossed on one side only.
